With the 2018 TriZou Triathlon and Duathlon right around the corner, it is important to remember a few essential tips to keep your body in shape before, during and after you compete.
Listen to your body.
Do not overtrain. Take rest days to allow your body to heal and recover. Remember that nutrition is an important part of your triathlon training. Eat a healthy diet and drink plenty of fluids.
Did we mention drinking plenty of fluids? It is very important to train hydrated and compete hydrated. One of the best ways to check hydration status is to monitor your urine. Dark urine is an indicator you need more fluid. Clear or colorless urine suggests you are hydrated. Make sure to include some electrolytes with your fluids to balance your water intake and help prevent muscle cramps.
Incorporate a pre-workout and post-workout routine.
Many athletes perform stretches and light warm-up activities before engaging in strenuous activity. Similarly, post-workout stretching can help your body recover, along with a shower and balanced meal or recovery drink. These strategies can help prevent injury on your path to race day.
Keep up the good work and safe training!
