This special update contains the final pre-ride instructions and schedules for the 2018 Tour de BBQPLEASE PRINT AND READ THIS INFORMATION CAREFULLY BEFORE THE RIDE! If you have any questions or comments, do not hesitate to send us an email and ask beforehand. All information in this packet has been updated on the website. You will find complete event details on the website if you cannot find something in this email.

Online fundraising/donating will close on Thursday at 8:00AM If you have any offline donations, please do not mail them. You can bring all your donations with you to packet pickup or on ride day and we will apply it to your fundraising!
IMPORTANT NOTICE: You may pick up other riders' packets ONLY if they have completed their fundraising (If Fundraise to Ride) and have a SIGNED WAIVER. More detailed information below.

Because this is an urban ride, children 12 and younger will not be able to participate in the Tour de BBQ.

  • 6:00AM - 9:00AM: Packet Pickup & Late Registration @ Prairiefire Entertainment District - 5661 W 135th St, Overland Park, KS
  • 7:30AM - 7:40AM: Full Slab (62 Mile) Start
  • 8:30AM - 8:50AM: Long Stack (35 Mile) Start
  • 9:30AM - 9:50AM: Short Stack (12 Mile) Start
  • 11:30AM: Post-Ride Celebration
  • 3:30PM: Course Closes

Start Times

Due to the number of riders participating, we will be doing a staggered start with specific start times for each distance (listed below).  You will be released in waves of 100 and will not be permitted to leave earlier than your start time. This will ensure you have a great experience at the rest stops and don’t overwhelm our restaurant partners for this event.  Waves are on a first come, first serve basis. There will be no assigned waves. Please be patient with this process.

Full Slab (62 Mile) Start Times

Long Stack (35 Mile) Start Times
  • 8:30AM - Wave 1
  • 8:40AM: Wave 2
  • 8:50AM: Wave 3

Parking Information

Parking will be located in the parking garage at Prairiefire. Please note those that have roof racks will need to park in the overflow parking areas around Prairiefire. A parking map can be found here.

Packet Pickup Information

We highly encourage you to pick up your packets on Thursday or Friday at Scheels if at all possible to avoid long lines on event day.

If you do need to pick up your packet on event day, be prepared for lines and be sure to arrive early! You are required to have your packet picked up at least 30 minutes prior to your staggered start time. These staggered times are set for a reason so please show up on time or you will not arrive back in time to enjoy the post-ride festivities.

*You will be allowed to pick other participant's packets up. All riders will sign a waiver before receiving their packets. You must sign the waiver before you will be allowed to participate. There will be waiver signing stations set up at packet pickup.

**If you are under 18, parents/guardians must sign the waiver. If your parent/guardian did not sign your waiver, you cannot ride.

**All riders who chose the Fundraising Only Option needs to have raised $85 before receiving their packets. Riders can complete their donations if they wish to at any packet pickup and on event day.

Route Information

Each rider will receive a color wrist band that reflects the course he/she registered for. All riders must wear their wrist band to receive FREE BBQ and experience the post-ride festivities. Each route is marked by cones and biodegradable route arrows. Cones will be placed on the route before every decision point and after every decision point (example – if you are approaching a turn you will see a cone right before the turn and then right after the turn). You will also be given cue cards at packet pickup.

 ALL RIDERS MUST STAY ON THE COURSE THEY REGISTERED FOR. Please note the routes are open to traffic. ALL RIDERS MUST OBEY ALL TRAFFIC REGULATIONS. This is an urban ride, please use extreme caution and pay attention. We do our absolute best to put you on the safest roads possible. There will be some areas with construction going on as well as rail road crossings. Please bring extra bike tubes, tools, patch kits, cell phone, etc… with you. We will have SAG support for emergencies only. You will have a much more enjoyable experience if you come prepared.

Route Support

Course support and SAG vehicles will be limited and based on rider needs. It is the responsibility of the rider to bring the proper bike repair equipment and to know his/her level of physical fitness. With that said, we will have 5 SAG Support vehicles on the course to pick up and drop off riders thanks to McCarthy Auto Group. There will also be bike mechanics at specific BBQ Stops to help with MINOR repairs - Jack Stack OP, BB's Lawnside BBQ, and Jack Stack Martin City

Rest Stops

Each route stops at specific BBQ Restaurants called "Rest Stops". Riders MUST only stop at Rest Stops on the route they registered for. Restaurants only have enough BBQ for the projected amount of riders for each route. Each Rest Stop will have a sampling of BBQ, water/hydration mix and a small sampling of various chips, cookies, pretzels, Hammer Gels, etc… Please plan to bring your own food if you are requiring specific nutrition. Please click here to view more specific Rest Stop information.

BBQ Time Frames

In order to receive BBQ at a rest stop, riders must reach a rest stop at a specific time frame. We do this so the restaurants know when to expect the early and the late riders. If a rider arrives earlier or later than the time frame, they are not guaranteed BBQ. Please plan your ride accordingly to allow yourself plenty of time at each stop.

Inclement Weather

The Tour de BBQ will proceed rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be delayed as long as possible in hopes the inclement weather will pass. Participants will be notified via email and social media if any delays or changes take place.. We suggest following us on Facebook for all up to date info!

Fundraising and Donations

If a rider chose the "Fundraising Only" option, he/she needs to raise/donate $85 in order to pick up the rider packet and participate in the Tour de BBQ. If a rider did not meet the goal, they can chose not to participate or pay the difference at any packet pickup day or on event day. There will be no refunds! Incentives will be awarded 2-weeks after the Tour de BBQ. We will announce some winners at the event but we need time to organize and sort all the data and financial transactions. We will notify the winners via email.
