1. ShamRox Run Race Series

ShamRox Run is a 15K & 5K race series in Springfield and Columbia, MO. This year it falls right on St. Patrick’s Day so you know you can expect a big and festive celebration. Its a unique event because the 15K distance is really a nice option if you are training for an upcoming half marathon. Also, if you are looking to getting into running, a 5K is always a great starter distance to try. Having it be St. Patrick’s Day themed just makes it even more fun. 2. Liberty Hospital Half Marathon

Nestled in Liberty, MO just a few miles north of KC is one of the newer half marathon around, Liberty Hospital Half. They do not cut any corners with a great course through scenic areas of Liberty and awesome racer SWAG. You can tell the city really gets behind the event with a positive and upbeat atmosphere. 3. Go Girl Run Series

Go Girl Run is a women’s half marathon and 5k running series that embraces fitness and sisterhood. The event focuses on newer runners but the avid half marathon or 5k racer will appreciate the stocked water stops, generous SWAG and well marked courses. 4. Garmin Marathon

2018 marks the 16th year of the Garmin Marathon. The race starts and finishes right at Garmin World Headquarters in Olathe, KS and offers a full marathon, half marathon and 10k distance options. Although you can usually expect some wind, the course is scenic utilizing the Indian Creek Trail system and surrounding sights of Olathe. A unique feature about the race is it embraces the Wizard of Oz theme with athletes dressing up as their favorite characters. Learn more at http://ozrun.org

5. Redbud Classic

Celebrating it’s 36th year in 2018, the Redbud Classic has been committed to bringing together the entire community in an event geared towards all ages and fitness levels. Saturday features a cycling tour followed by a pancake breakfast. Sunday ends with a 10K and 5K running events. All the funds raised for the event go towards local non profits in the community.

6. MOI TriZou Sprint Triathlon

If you ever even had a slight interest in dabbling in the sport of Triathlon, Missouri Orthopedic Institute TriZou is a great option. Its located at the University of Missouri at one of the top swimming venues in the country. TriZou offers a traditional sprint triathlon, a duathlon and a super sprint triathlon. The bike course is technical and on busier roads within the city. However, its very rare to find a triathlon that is located in a downtown city which brings a unique atmosphere to the event. 7. Joplin Memorial Run

The Joplin Memorial Run started to honor of the 161 individuals who lost their lives and all who have helped recover from the EF-5 tornado that struck May 22, 2011. Those not from Joplin will feel like they are part of the Joplin community as the whole city gets behind this event every year. The event offers a wide range of distance options along with a fantastic assortment of post-race food following the race. With a live and energetic atmosphere, this is a race to put on your calendar. 8. Trolley Run

Trolley Run is one of the largest timed four-mile road races in the country. The best part of this event is that its all down hill so you are almost guaranteed to run a personal best. Its a point to point race finishing at the popular Country Club Plaza shopping district  followed by an assortment of post-race food from local vendors and live music. Proceeds from the race go to support Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired which provides programming and support for children who are blind or visually impaired. 9. Aquarium Run

The Aquarium Run is one of the area’s premier race events with more than 2,000 runners every year. The event offers a Half Marathon and 10K, perfect as training runs in advance of the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, as well as a 5K and a family-friendly 1-mile Fun Run/Walk. All participants enjoy complimentary admission to the Oklahoma Aquarium which is a nice perk. Proceeds from the event help support the educational exhibits and programs of the Oklahoma Aquarium. 10. Kansas City Triathlon

The historic Kansas City Triathlon is one of the largest multi-distance triathlons in the region and offers a world class racer experience. Its the only race in KC that offers an open water olympic distance option for those looking for something a little more than a sprint. The event does offer a relay and duathlon option if an early May open water triathlon is a little intimidating for you.
